Fiber launches in Kittery and Abbeville move expansion into service

New service launches in Maine and Louisiana provide concrete regional deployment signals for operators and their engineering and construction partners.

October 6, 2026

THE DEVELOPMENT

What happened

GoNetspeed announced its first Kittery, Maine customer connections on October 1, describing a $1.7 million investment while construction continues. Optimum announced its Abbeville, Louisiana fiber launch on October 2, with plans offering speeds up to 8 gigabits per second. Broadband Communities highlighted both on October 5. These are earlier developments newly identified for this edition, not October 6 launch announcements. Optimum’s separate $10,000 education contribution is not a network construction budget.

PREMIA VIEW

What this means for owners, operators and investors

First connections move a project into the customer-acquisition stage. Regional investors should track serviceable addresses, paid activations, installation costs and competition rather than treating advertised speeds as proof of attractive returns.

WHAT REMAINS UNCERTAIN

The releases do not provide sufficient subscriber, penetration or profitability data to assess local returns. Kittery’s build is continuing.

DECISION QUESTIONS

Three questions stakeholders should answer now.

  1. 01
How many addresses can order service today?
  2. 02
What share becomes paying customers, at what acquisition cost?
  3. 03
Which remaining construction tasks require outside suppliers?

WHAT TO WATCH

What to watch next

Build completion, address-level availability, customer activations and installation performance.
